Who Am I?

Hello everyone! My name is Stefanie Schauer, I am 21 years old and a person with way too many different hobbies and interests. A day must have at least 48 hours in order for me to be able to embrace all of my favourite activities.

My affection for my two biggest passions already began to show when I was very young. At that time, my family and I lived in a very small house only surrounded by forests and endless maize fields. It was beautiful to look at but sometimes really boring – until we got our first personal computer. Ever since then I spend way too many hours of my weekends either playing games or browsing the Internet. It was around the same time, when I started binge-reading any comic books and novels that I was able to get my hands on.

Nowadays, my hobbies are more varied than that. Besides reading, I also enjoy writing, drawing, painting and doing crafts. Some of the hobbies I recently started are knitting and crocheting easy applications. It may sound like something only your grandma would enjoy, but I found out that it is the perfect activity for me to do while watching my favourite series.


On the weekends, I also love to cook or bake all kinds of confectionery for my family and friends. Lately, I have been trying to extend my cooking abilities by experimenting with different Asian recipes, especially Japanese and Korean ones. Most of the easy ones actually turn out pretty good, like these Japanese Onigiri.

Hi, it's me!

Dear fellow students! (:

As required, I am going to give you a glimpse into my life.

My name is Mirjam Urach and I come from a small, rural village in Carinthia. As I have lived there for all my life, I am enjoying life in the city all the more.  It was quite a positive change of scenery to move to Graz, I have to say. Last fall I began to study English and Spanish in Graz and I believe it was the best decision I could have made.

Two hobbies of mine I want to mention are music and reading. Music is a great part of my family, so it has always been in my life. I enjoy singing in a choir and playing the piano. In my childhood, I was pretty crazy about nearly all the flutes available. In secondary school I took guitar lessons, but if you would ask me now to play something, I could not. Therefore, I plan on picking up that instrument again at some point in the future. So, it's just the piano right now. Of course, I also love listening to music. As I mentioned, reading is another passion of mine. I believe it's important not to just read one particular genre. Right now, I am working my way through a pile of books from my aunt. They are mainly about the Dalai Lama and Tibet, which I think is a very interesting topic.

In search of something in my room to show you, that card I got in a restaurant caught my eye. The fun thing is that only today I became aware of the fact that the text on it is kind of my motto. Keep calm and eat pasta! As I am too nervous and worried about things in general, I often tell myself to just keep calm. Keep calm and look on the bright side. Also be more relaxed and most importantly enjoy life, do things which make you happy and be with people who make you happy. The second part is “eat pasta” and to that I can say that I am a vegetarian who loves eating everything related to pasta. Over the years, I have gained more insight into how bad the massive meat consumption is for humans, animals and the environment. So I am glad to have abandoned my animal eating self years ago and I can only tell you to follow Barilla's advice. Eat pasta. It tastes better anyway! (;

Hello everybody!

 

Today I want to tell you all a little bit more about myself. Some of you know me already but for those who don’t, keep reading. ;)

 

My name is Sandra and I am 21 years old. I am from a small town called Saalfelden in Salzburg. The area around this town is known for its skiing resorts and tourism. It’s such a beautiful place and I’m glad that I had the privilege to grow up there.  The all so famous Sound of Music was even filmed near where I live!

 

 

 

I used to be really athletic and did all kinds of sports such gymnastics, volleyball and football when I was younger. For four years I went to a winter sports school, where we trained about 13 hours a week and participated in cross-country skiing and biathlon competitions. I still enjoy cross-country skiing, but I am only doing it for fun now.

 

One of my passions is travelling. I love being in new places and discovering what they have to offer. This is why I chose to go abroad for a year after high school. I worked as an au pair in Bristol, England and I have to say that being away from my friends and family for that long was really hard sometimes, but it makes you appreciate the people you love so much more. I travelled a lot during that time and made friends with people from all over the world. It was a great experience!

I enjoy getting to know different cultures and learning languages, but I guess pretty much everyone studying at the ITAT does. In my spare time I mostly hang out with my friends and family or I spend the day with my head buried in a good book. At the moment I’m on the lookout for a new exciting hobby, so if you have any suggestions, leave a comment! J

Who am I?

Personally, I think it is very difficult to explain my personality and life story in just one text.

However, let’s start from the beginning. My name is Sabrina. I am 20 years old and I study Italian, Russian and English as I want to work as an interpreter after graduation.

The easiest way to describe myself is probably through my zodiac sign, as I would consider myself a very stereotypical Aries. I am quick-tempered, impulsive, impatient, open-minded, energetic and determined; and I talk all the time and too much - my boyfriend calls me his biggest challenge :D.

I have been passionate about languages and other cultures ever since I can remember, so the question about what to study after school wasn’t very difficult to answer. That’s why almost three years ago I decided to study Italian and Russian and I’m about to finish my bachelor degree this year - by the way, it was the best decision ever: I fell in love with these languages more than I have ever expected and I would like to speak them both all day :)). Last semester I thought it’d be fun to add English to my studies. Long story cut short – you will probably see me at the ITAT all the time, as the decision to study three languages turned the institute into my „second home“ ;).

However, although there is only little time left for leisure activities, there are other things which I am passionate about. I love travelling – I am blaming my father for turning me into a wanna-see-everything kind of person: during my childhood we visited a lot of countries all over the world; amongst others also 14 US-states. So one could probably say that my sister and I were “taught” to be interested in every kind of “hardcore-sightseeing” ;). In addition to that I love drawing and reading and do pole dance. When I was younger I also used to write and participate in competitions, but ever since I started university and due to a lack of time I express my writing „only“ by writing stories in the foreign languages I study.

I am very interested in politics and could easily discuss what is going on in the word and why for hours - especially, I am interested in the War in Ukraine and in Russia, as I have a lot of friends in the Ukraine and in Russia. I get angry when people talk about things they do not understand or know quite fast. This being said, it obviously doesn’t mean that I understand and know everything – to be honest I think quite the opposite is the case. I got to know so much different point of views, that I became aware of the fact that nobody can know anything exactly. This often raises questions which I tend to think about quite a lot, like: To what extent are we able to know what is actually happening or has happened? Which statements and “facts” that we hear about are actually the truth? Is there, in general, something like “a” truth? Is there more than one truth? And if not, does this mean that there’s only one truth which leads to many twisted imitations of it? As I spent a semester abroad in Russia last year I was able to experience and get to know a completely different ideology and a different view of historical events of the past (and present). It was an interesting experience for me to see things from another point of view and it particularly changed me in one specific aspect: I think more precisely about everything and try to shed light on different aspects and point of views. Truth be told, I wish more people would do that. Who has the right to judge on whether something is wrong or right? Exactly – nobody! As you might guess, I obviously still have my own political opinion – and to be perfectly honest it’s a quite strong one – which makes it difficult to have a discussion with me ;) Even so, I usually think twice before saying anything and know when to pursue an argument but also when to listen and consider other opinions as well.

So this is it – this is basically everything that came to my mind for now. I hope you enjoyed reading and I am looking forward to hearing about your stories as well.



Who am I ?

Hello everyone, it’s me, AnnaJ.  As we are a really large group of students it is unlikely that everyone knows me. So I want to tell you something about me.

I am 19 years old and my home town is in the wonderful Carinthia. There I live together in a big house with my mum and dad. I also have an older brother but he already moved to Klagenfurt. We really get on well together and sometimes we go out and party together. I really enjoy this, as he always protects me J

My home country is very rural so I love spending time outside. My favourite place is a lake up the mountains, 20 min away from my home. I often go there, especially in summer with my friends and we put up a tent and stay there for 2 days, enjoying the nature and atmosphere.  

Beside this, I love reading books, mainly thrillers. As a symbol I’ve posted a picture of a shelve full with books, so that you can imagine how my room looks like. Every time I buy a new book it is really difficult to find space for it, as my shelves are completely “covered” with books. 

 

With this picture I want to finish my” Who I am” post. Do you have an idea why I chose a picture of dextrose? No? Dextrose is something I always have with me as I am diabetic. So it can happen that my blood sugar level is low and I have to eat something. My mom is sometimes despairing as the dextrose is really everywhere in our house- even in the bathroom.
